This is the most delicate issue that surrounds refugees since many health facilities in countries of transit are insensitive to the needs of the LGBTQ community. For instance, refugees may not feel safe disclosing their sexual health information due to homophobia, for fear of being outed to the community, and for fear of retaliation. For many refugees, disclosure of any sexual information, like HIV status, could be a cause for deportation and eventual death. Spectra Project aims to have a database of LGBTQ-friendly health providers and will disseminate information while maintaining confidentiality. We also aim to partner with health providers to make referrals for our beneficiaries so that they can have necessary treatment. We also aim to offer mental health services to those in need. Spectra Project workshops and trainings will include sexual and mental health sessions.
